Standard edition

The standard edition is the distillery's base edition and forms the backbone of ongoing production. It often represents the house style and character and is typically sold without an age statement, known as NAS (no age statement). The aim is to give the distillery greater flexibility in cask selection and in blending batches sold as a uniform experience over time.

Age statement and label NAS means that no specific age is stated on the bottle. The bottle's label often follows a uniform design line that reflects the distillery's brand and perception of quality, and changes rarely between editions to the extent that the fundamental style is altered.

Maturation and cask aging The standard edition typically matures in a blend of oak casks, with certain batches possibly including secondary cask types. This approach yields a stable profile with aging notes such as vanilla, caramel and oak, while fruity and spicy elements remain balanced.

Flavor profile and character - Nose: notes of vanilla, honey, green apples and light oak. - Taste: rounded sweetness, vanilla, caramel and spices with a moderate fruity note. - Finish: long and balanced with a touch of oak dryness, tempered by sweetness and fruit.

Usage and serving Suitable for everyday enjoyment and as an introduction to the house style. Can be enjoyed neat or with a splash of water to open the aromas. Recommended serving temperature around 16–20 °C.

Availability and variations As the standard edition, it is often widely available and more affordable than special editions such as Limited or Exclusive. There may be minor batch-to-batch variations, but the overall style remains faithful to the distillery's core signature.

Comparison with other editions - Limited/Exclusive: special cask combinations and printed labels; often produced in smaller quantities and at higher price. - NAS vs vintage editions: NAS allows flexibility in production, while vintage editions focus on specific maturation profiles and clearly defined ages.

» Note: The term and notes may vary between distilleries and vintages, but the standard edition remains the house's representation in the ongoing portfolio.
