Sweet whisky
Sweet whisky describes a flavor profile in which sweetness dominates both aroma and taste. The primary sweetness often comes from vanilla, caramel and honey and can be enhanced by oak casks and sweet fruit notes during maturation.
Duft (Aroma): - Dominant sweetness with notes of vanilla, honey and caramel - Light fruit sweetness, for example dried fruits such as raisins or prunes - A warm, pleasant cereal- or woody aroma
Smag: - Rich sweetness with vanilla, caramel and honey - Caramelized malt and oak notes; sometimes a light spice edge (cinnamon, nutmeg) - Fruit notes such as raisins, prunes or pear compote
Finish: - Long or medium-long finish with persistent sweetness - Leaves a warmth of vanilla and caramel, sometimes with hints of wood and spice
Produktion og modning: - Many sweet expressions are achieved through the use of sherry casks, especially PX (Pedro Ximénez) or Oloroso - First-fill bourbon casks add vanilla and caramel - May be single malt or grain-based; maturation in different casks contributes to the sweetness
Variationer og stil: - Speyside and Lowland whiskies are often associated with a sweet, fruity, and vanilla-forward profile - Sherried expressions give a dense, fruity sweetness; smoke can occur in certain editions
Anvendelse og servering: - Enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water to open the aromas - Often paired with dessert, particularly chocolate, caramel cake or baked apples - Well suited as a finish to a meal
