Fruity whisky
Fruity whisky is described as a style in which fruit notes dominate or stand out clearly on the nose and palate. The fruitiness can be both fresh and pronounced in dried fruits, and it often appears together with malty and sweet elements such as vanilla or honey.
Nose - Fresh fruit notes: apple, pear, melon, orange - Dried fruits: prunes, raisins, figs - Complementary elements: honey, vanilla, light malt and wood
Flavor - Primary fruit notes: apple, pear, peach, apricot - Secondary layers: vanilla, caramel, honey, almond - Body: often medium- to full-bodied, with a soft or slightly dry finish
Aftertaste - Long finish with lingering fruit notes; fresh fruit or dried fruits continue, often with notes of vanilla and oak
Variations - Young whisky: fresher fruit notes - Older whisky: more mature, dried or dusty fruit notes and deeper wood
Serving and pairing - Ideal with mild cheeses, desserts and light snacks; serve at about 15-18°C.
