Let whisky

Light whisky is a style within whisky, characterized by a mild flavor and a light body. The fresh profile often provides a clean aroma and an uncomplicated drinking experience.

The color is typically light golden to light copper and often reflects a shorter aging period or the use of lighter casks.

Flavor profile and aroma: Typical notes include green apples, pear, honey and vanilla. The aroma's complexity is usually light to moderate, with a hint of citrus or lightly spicy elements, but the intensity remains restrained.

Finish: Usually short to medium, with a mild sweetness and a clean finish, without a strong dryness.

Production and aging: Light whisky is often achieved through a lighter distillation profile and moderate aging that preserves the grain's freshness and aroma. The aging typically occurs in lightly toasted casks, usually ex-bourbon, and in some cases neutral casks, which contribute to bright notes and an uncomplicated character.

Style and variations: The style has variations across regions. In Scotland, younger blends or single malts with short aging are often seen, while American variants can be light bourbons or rye whiskies with a mild profile.

Serving and pairing: Recommended serving is 3–4 cl in a suitable whisky glass at about 12–18 °C. A Glencairn-glas or a wide glass helps release the mild aromas. Light whisky pairs well with light dishes, salads, mild cheeses and desserts with fresh fruit or honey.
