Lindores Abbey Distillery
About the distillery
Lindores Abbey Distillery is located at Lindores Abbey and is a place where Scottish whisky history and contemporary production meet. The distillery ties its identity to the earliest written reference to Scotch Whisky, while also describing a modern approach to single malt. For whisky lovers, it is especially interesting as a historical site where spirit flows from the copper stills again after 523 years of pause.
History
For centuries, Lindores Abbey has been a place of pilgrimage, and the distillery builds its story on the site’s special place in Scottish whisky history. The earliest written reference to Scotch Whisky is linked to the Abbey, and precisely that connection has become a central part of the distillery’s identity. After 523 years of pause, spirit began flowing again from the copper stills, marking a new phase for the site. Lindores Abbey Distillery describes its own practice as a modern whisky-making method on a historical foundation, inspired by both local heritage and experience from major Scottish distilleries past and present.
Ingredients and production
Production is rooted in the copper stills, where spirit flows again from the stills on the historic grounds at Lindores Abbey. The distillery describes its approach as modern and emphasizes that it works with whisky production in a place with deep historical roots. No details about grain varieties, fermentation, mashing, water source, or precise distillation conditions are provided in the available text, but it is clear that the identity is built on combining contemporary craftsmanship with the site’s long whisky history.
Whiskies
The publicly highlighted range revolves around Lindores Single Malt Whisky and the historical reference MCDXCIV (1494). The communication is clearly centered on single malt as the house’s main story, with emphasis on the fact that the whisky is made for whisky lovers around the world. In the available text, there is also a focus on private casks, where owners can arrange a personal bottling with a name, company logo, or family coat of arms. This gives the range a combination of classic single malt and more individual options.
