Historie

The Borders Distillery opened in Hawick in March 2018 – the first Scotch Whisky distillery in the Scottish Borders since 1837. With locally grown barley, mineral-rich water, and a hardworking team, Borders Whisky brings the Borders back to life. In Scotland's rarest whisky-producing region, they patiently await the arrival of their own Single Malt. The building is an environmentally friendly retrofit of Hawick's former power station and a part of Famously Hawick. Borders Growers & Distillers ensures full traceability from seed to spirit, with around 12 farms within 35 miles and water from an underground lake that filters through the rock for 50–70 years. The distillery has award-winning recognition and is a popular tourist destination; they offer tours and experiences and place emphasis on environmental and social responsibility across the entire supply chain. The 1837 Private Cask program offers a window into cask ownership, and the company highlights that they are Made in the Borders, by the Borders with a seed-to-spirit collaboration and local provenance.
