About the distillery

Trolden Distillery & Brewery is located in Kolding and is a handcrafted Danish house with both a brewery and a distillery under the same roof. Here they make beer, gin and single malt whisky, and the distillery builds its whisky on Danish barley malt, hand-hammered pot-stills and aging in oak casks. It is a place where production is deliberately kept small and close to the craft, and where you can also drop by for a tasting or the Friday bar.

History

Trolden's story begins in 2005, when the brewhouse was established with a focus on handcrafted products and a slower approach to flavor and process. The distillery was added in 2011, and it still shares an address with the brewhouse in Kolding. From here single malt whisky is produced on hand-hammered pot-stills, while the brewhouse continues with unfiltered beer and bottle conditioning. Trolden describes the work itself as a matter of craftsmanship, patience and love for flavor, and that theme runs through both beer and spirits. Today the company can still be seen as a unified house where several beverages are created side by side, but with the same basic idea: things must be done on the terms of the raw materials and the processes.

Raw materials and production

Trolden's whisky is made from Danish barley malt and distilled in small batches on hand-hammered pot-stills. The distillery emphasizes that the method gives a round and almost oily tasting experience, and that production takes place in Kolding. It is also a house that does not work with mass production, but with hands-on involvement in the process all the way. In the other spirit production the same fundamental craft approach is used, and pot-stills are described as the central tool. For the gin series small copper pots and an infusion box are mentioned, which capture fine nuances of aroma and flavor from the botanicals, and this approach says a lot about the distillery's way of working: small batches, clear process control and focus on the raw materials' own expressions.

Maturation and cask types

The whisky is matured in oak casks of American oak and Spanish ex-sherry. This gives Trolden a classic cask foundation, where both new oak and previous sherry contents are part of the house's maturation work. All maturation takes place in Kolding, and this fits the distillery's clear preference for slow processes and craft-based production.

Whiskies

Trolden's current range on the website includes whisky as part of a broader selection with beer, gin, rum and vodka/liqueur. For whisky, the Danish single malt line is especially highlighted, while the rest of the site shows that the house works with small batches and variants across several categories. The range is therefore broad, but the common style is clear: small batches, handcrafted products and a direct connection between distillery, shop and visitors. Overall, the whisky comes across as a natural part of a craft house rather than as an isolated, industrial product line.

Philosophy and craftsmanship

Trolden's approach is consistently craft-based. They work slowly, in small batches and with respect for flavor. Beer is not filtered, spirits are distilled on pot-stills, and each bottle is described as created by people, not machines. The house emphasizes community, presence and genuine quality over one-size-fits-all solutions.
