Company History
- Founded in 1798 by Magnus Eunson in Kirkwall, Orkney. Official license to distill in 1826.
- The name does not come from the Scottish Highlands, but from an area called "High Park".
- In 1937 the distillery was sold to James Grant & Sons; in 1979 The Edrington Group acquired the distillery.
- The 225th anniversary was celebrated in 2023 with the release of a 54-year-old single malt.
Production Details
- Located in Kirkwall, Orkney Islands; the northernmost single malt distillery.
- Capacity: about 2.5 million litres per year; 2 wash stills and 2 spirit stills.
- Production follows traditional methods and uses locally peat-smoked malt with a higher proportion of heather.
- Maturation takes place primarily in sherry casks of American or European oak from Spanish Oloroso producers.
