Historie

Nordmarkens Destilleri AB is a Swedish microdistillery located in Holmedal outside Årjäng, surrounded by grain fields and the vast forests of Värmland. The distillery was founded in 2014 by Gunnar, Morgan and Ingmar, and later Claes, Mikael, Jesper, Johan, Thomas and Öystein joined the team. The focus is on quality, craftsmanship and passion – one bottle at a time. The history includes that the distillery moved in 2018 to new premises and began distilling raw spirit in their Scottish pot stills and using Swedish organic malt. They produce their own exclusive single malt and single grain character profiles and also act as independent bottlers – they buy high-quality whisky- and rum-character profiles and process them in smaller, unique batches. The water comes from their own source, and they arrange whisky, rum and schnapps tastings. Nordmarkens philosophy is to prioritise quality over quantity and to bring together creativity with craftsmanship.

Produktion / Fremstilling

Nordmarkens distillery distills raw spirit in their own Scottish pot stills and works with house-produced malt whisky as well as vodka-based drinks. They use Swedish organic malt and water from their own source, and focus on small batches and craftsmanship. After maturation in various casks, often 50 L for smaller casks and 225 L casks that previously contained port wine or oloroso sherry, depending on the bottle. The distillery also produces independent bottlings and hosts whisky tastings and experiences.

• Petraea — unpeated single malt whisky, 48% ABV, 500 ml. Aged in 50 L Hungarian oak casks; character: powerful notes of spices, nuts and roasted tones, balanced by the distillate's clean and mild character. Launched on October 6, 2025 and available via Systembolaget.
• Initium — Swedish single malt whisky, 48% ABV, 500 ml. Focus on dried fruit, orange, raisin and chocolate; a blend of unpeated and 16 ppm smoked distillate; aged in 50 L ex-oloroso and 180 L ex-bourbon. Sold out.
• Nordmarkens Granum — single grain whisky, 52% ABV, 500 ml. Aged 7 years in first-fill oloroso sherry casks. Character: nuanced with sherry, hazelnut and fruity notes. Available at Systembolaget.
• Exspecto II — unpeated distillate, 50% ABV, 500 ml. Aged 6 years in 50 L oloroso sherry casks; Systembolaget's order assortment in Värmland.
• Ex. Arca — unpeated distillate, 52% ABV, 500 ml. Fruity 'candy-sweetness' with notes of berries and dried fruit; aged in 225 L port wine casks; independent bottling based on Box-destilleri.
• Memento MMXX — 51% ABV, 500 ml. Aged 9 years (7 years on bourbon casks + 2 years on new Swedish oak casks); independent bottling; matured and bottled in Scotland.
• Primus Fumea — 54% ABV, 500 ml. Malty, lightly smoky flavor with oak character; Pedro Ximénez sherry cask. The name Primus Fumea means 'the first smoky'.
• Traukiol — 53% ABV, 500 ml. Unpeated distillate with notes of vanilla, porridge, caramel and citrus; aged in American white oak bourbon barrels.
