History

Bräntings Bränneri is a young, small whisky distillery outside the village of Bunge, Gotland. The distillery sits in an old military bunker surrounded by Gotland's nature. We produce small batches of limited edition whiskies and work with different malts and aging casks. Our history shows a dedication to raw materials and cask aging.

Production/Manufacturing

Our copper still is handmade in Portugal and used to produce our own single malt whisky. We use lightly peated malt from Gotland. We mature the spirit in different casks and cask types, including ex-bourbon, ex-rum and ex-sherry as well as new American, French and Swedish oak casks. Some of our blends finish with roasted oak staves from our own trees, which impart notes of vanilla, caramel and licorice. According to Bräntings Bränneri, 70-80% of the whisky's flavor comes from cask aging, and 100% of the color comes from coloring in the cask.

Products/Whisky Series

01 – Three Oaks Whisky: Bräntings Bränneri's first blended malt whisky, aged in the bunker on Gotland. Taste: nuts, vanilla and caramel with notes of flowers, oak and a licorice finish. Sold out. 02 – Winter Blend Whisky: A small batch of 115 bottles, a blended malt with flavors of pear, citrus, caramel, minerals and a hint of licorice. Part of the character comes from toasted sugar maple staves. 03 – Bunge Oak Whisky: Toasted staves from our own trees added to one of the casks. Blended with malt whisky matured in new American oak casks and ex-sherry casks. Flavor: sweet, fresh and not peppery. Best enjoyed neat, on the rocks or in a cocktail. Supplied to restaurants such as Gastronoma and Keges. 04 – Cask Strength Whisky: Aged in ex-bourbon, ex-sherry and ex-rum casks. Blended and bottled at cask strength, 53.2%. Available to restaurants.

Whisky Glögg 2025: Whisky and fresh-pressed apple juice, flavored with yuzu and genuine Madagascar bourbon vanilla. Flavor of caramel, oak, apples, grapes and orange with a vanilla-smooth finish. Served warm as glögg or cold over ice. No water added. Order via Systembolaget.

Whisky Glögg 2024: Traditional Swedish glögg with whisky and fresh-pressed apple juice, flavored with ginger, cardamom and orange zest. Available at Systembolaget Visby.

Philosophy

Our goal is to find the best raw materials for the desired flavor, and our focus is on cask aging, since this accounts for 70-80% of the whisky's flavor and 100% of the color. We work with casks such as ex-bourbon, ex-rum and ex-sherry, as well as new oak casks from the USA, France and Sweden. We plan to develop our own single malt in the future, which will require a few years in casks before it is released.
