History

Podkarpacka Destylarnia Okowity i Długie is a distillery that aims to produce regional spirits in an old-fashioned style. Okowita (okowita/okovita) is the traditional Polish spirit, and the place is known for preserving old recipes and facilities that have been in use for over fifty years. The owner Grzegorz Pińczuk and his father have continued alcohol production through generations. After World War II raw materials and production expanded to a larger scale; later in 2016 Grzegorz Pińczuk bought the facility and decided to adapt the plant for the production of traditional regional fruit and grain spirits, opening in spring 2018 as the launch of the first distillery of its kind in Poland. The distillery combines production with a living museum, where visitors can take a guided tour and learn the production process step by step.

Production and manufacturing

The distillery has a long tradition of processing raw materials from local fields and home-grown ingredients. In earlier times the raw materials included, for example, potatoes, rye, wheat and apples and were processed into okowita and later into a range of regional spirits. The current approach focuses on traditional regional fruit- and grain-spirit and nalewka (herbal liqueur). Some of the distillery's products are aged on-site in oak barrels to improve flavor and complexity. The distillery describes itself as a place where production and a living museum come together, so guests can experience the history and techniques through a guided tour and demonstrations of the production process.

Products and the Whisky Series

It is emphasized that Podkarpacka Destylarnia Okowity produces okowita (regional spirits) and nalewka liqueurs. No specific whisky series is mentioned in the information. The main product types are regional okowita and nalewka, some of which may be aged in oak, but there is no dedicated whisky range or series mentioned.

Visits and Experiences

Visitors can experience the distillery as a living museum and participate in tours around the production area and learn about each step in the process. Emphasis is placed on authenticity, the site's history, and the 'genius loci' as the most valuable aspect of the product.

Philosophy and Tradition

A historical awareness and respect for traditional recipes and natural ingredients characterize the place. Values such as craftsmanship, thoughtfulness and an authentic environment – including architectural design and surroundings – give the spirits a distinctive character that reflects the region's cultural heritage.
