History
- Langatun is a Swiss whisky distillery in Aarwangen and is a continuation of the Baumberger family's tradition in brewing and distilling. The name Langatun refers to Langenthal, and the distillery still uses the original Langenthal spring water as an important ingredient and part of its identity. The Baumberger family ran the distillery for generations, and in 1999 laid the foundation for Langatun as a supplier of handcrafted single malt whiskies. In 2014, the whiskey production was moved to the historic Kornhaus in Aarwangen, while maturation continues in Langenthal. Langatun Classics was launched in 2011 and included Old Deer, Old Bear and Gold Bee. In 2018 the company was integrated into High Spirits Holding AG, which also contributed to Langatun's further development through the merger of Langatun Distillery AG. Today the story continues as a family tradition with a focus on nature, tradition and craftsmanship.
- Langatun is known for its Heritage Line, which is a tribute to the Baumberger family's traditional brewing and distilling art and the use of the surrounding, untouched natural waters from a source in Langenthal.
Description of spirit and ambition
- Langatun prioritizes craftsmanship, long maturation and the use of quality raw materials as core values. Emphasis is placed on unadulterated nature, original water from the Langenthal spring, and a slow, deliberate distillation process in copper stills, which gives the whisky its soft, complex character.
Production / Manufacturing
- Water and malt: Langatun uses 100% barley malt whisky and uses the soft Langenthal spring water as a key part of the raw material.
- Distillation process: The production uses a contemporary double distillation in copper stills to achieve a particularly soft, malty character.
- Maturation: The whiskies mature in sherry and Chardonnay casks, contributing to complexity and an elegant finish.
- Heritage Line: A tribute to the Baumberger family's tradition and the natural, unadulterated values.
- Organic production: Old Woodpecker is certified organic and follows the CH-BIO-038 protocol throughout the process.
- Product range in focus: Langatun produces a range of single malt whiskies with different styles and finishes, including peated and non-peated variants, as well as cask finish and special single-cask bottlings.

- Langatun emphasizes natural quality, slow production and the use of master distillers in Switzerland, focusing on preserving the traditions while innovating through small batches and special finishes.
- The company's water and a commitment to sustainability are seen through Old Woodpecker – organic – and the slow, artisanal approach to whisky production.
