History

Domaine de la Rose d’Or is a Swiss wine and hospitality destination located in Luins. The owner is Jean-Michel Walther, and the business emphasizes a deep rooting in family heritage and Swiss wine tradition. It is noted that the wine school not only focuses on theoretical knowledge but also on practical tasting experiences – since 2008 courses have been offered that combine serious instruction with wine tastings.

Production / Manufacturing

One of the distinctive features is the use of GALILEOAK, an innovative spherical wooden barrel developed in collaboration with the Seguin Moreau cooperages. The wines are often produced with meticulously hand-harvested grapes, low temperature during cooling, and vinification in special vessels to optimize aromas and temperature control. The unique aspects of the technique include: - The cellar ferments in Galilée Oak, enabling homogeneous flow and natural thermal stability. - Aging in large 228-liter “Icône” white oak barriques, often followed by maturation for 12–18 months and total development over 28–36 months. - Allocation and numbering of special cuvées (e.g., Galiléoak) with limited production (e.g., 288 bottles for some vintages).

Philosophy

Domaine de la Rose d’Or emphasizes a balance between tradition and innovation. The Galileoak project illustrates a desire to challenge conventions through new vinification techniques and unique containers, while still placing emphasis on craftsmanship, hand harvesting, and a deep respect for terroir and craft. There is also a commitment to sustainability through the L’Odyssée de l’Eau initiative, supported by the sale of champagne and other products, with donations to water-protection projects. Finally, heritage is valued, particularly the dedication to family legacy and Swiss wines, and a desire to preserve and carry forward these traditions through small, exclusive series.
