Historie

Distillery Krauss was started in 2007 when they began producing spirits in a home garage. They describe themselves as a handcrafted distillery, and in 2022 they were named Distillery of the Year by the World Spirits Awards. They emphasize working without compromises and using 'pure nature' throughout the process – with cold mountain water from the Kor Alps as a base and ingredients from regional farmers in Styria whom they know personally and trust. Some ingredients come from partners far away, but quality and credibility are central.

Their GENERATION range, developed together with the sibling duo Kiera and Spencer Chaplin, consists of three products: Generation Aperitif, Generation Vodka and Irish Single Malt Whiskey. The idea behind the brand springs from familial roots and a homely feeling – Kiera brings Hollywood glamour, while Spencer provides the cool musician vibe. Their products are marketed as handcrafted and uncompromising, and they emphasize tasting nature's purity through the use of mountain water and local ingredients.

Produktion og tilgang

The base consists of pure and smooth mountain water from the Kor Alps, and all fruits, grains, herbs and other ingredients grown in Styria are supplied by local farmers whom the distillery knows and trusts. Some ingredients come from farther away, but only through partners they deem credible. They highlight slow and meticulous quality over haste, and they stress having full knowledge of the origins and background of their products.

• GENERATION (APÉRITIF): A bitter fruit liqueur at 16 % vol., where the bitterness comes from gentian extract and the fruit notes from raspberry and grapefruit. The product is naturally colored and may lose intensity when exposed to sunlight. Wins GOLD at the Las Vegas Spirits Awards 2024.
• GENERATION (VODKA): Ultra-pure wheat distillate with 40 % vol. After being adjusted to drinkable strength, the vodka is stored in stainless steel tanks to become smoother and 'a little water'. Wins PLATINUM at the Las Vegas Spirits Awards 2024.
• IRISH SINGLE MALT WHISKEY: An Irish single malt, double distilled (twice), 3 years old, with 46 % vol. and natural color. Notes of banana, fresh apple and wheat beer; long aftertaste linked to the primary mountain water in the Styrian Koralpe. Included as part of the exclusive line and is not yet medal-titled in the Las Vegas test.
• Distillery Krauss Sulm Valley Whiskey / Single Malt Whisky / Peated Single Malt Whisky / Rye Whisky: The distillery showcases a range of whisky products under the exclusive line – including Sulm Valley Whiskey, Single Malt Whisky and Peated Single Malt Whisky as well as Rye Whisky. They claim to be able to produce both corn-based whisky (corn-based, resembling Bourbon), as well as Grain and Malt Whisky, and emphasize that all whiskies follow the same production process in the distillery.
• Diverse other products: Gin (e.g., Organic London Dry Gin), Brandy, Liqueurs, Vermouth and Rum as well as other specialty products under the exclusive line.

KRAUSS' core value is freedom – the freedom to do things their own way and to believe that what comes out of the bottle is the purest joy. They value authenticity, simplicity and beauty in nature and combine that with locally and internationally selected ingredients and high-quality, running mountain water. Their communication repeats the principle: there are no compromises and only purity in quality.
