History Tria Prima is a small family-owned business run by Paul and Trang Shand. Master Distiller is Paul Shand, and our nano-distillery is located in Mount Barker in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. We place emphasis on South Australian ingredients and traditional production methods that yield a spirit of high quality and complexity. Our approach is inspired by the principles of alchemy and the idea of Tria Prima, the three primary qualities in the production of uisge beatha – barley malt, water and oak. Paul Shand's background as a geochemist and his interest in the evolution of spirits and the influence of an arid environment on flavor underpin our approach.

Production/Manufacturing We use time-honored techniques and local ingredients, including South Australian barley, and follow a process that focuses on quality and transparency. Production is carried out in limited quantities to achieve a complex and well-balanced whisky, and we age in high-quality casks to highlight different styles of single malt in relation to the type of cask. All of our whiskies are unfiltered and free of added color.

Products/Whisky Series Our range focuses on different styles of single malt in relation to aging in different cask types. Current representatives are: - Enchantress – aged in Appera cask - Bruxa – aged in Tawny cask - Shaman – aged in bourbon cask These are presented through original artwork by the local artist and designer Matt Kavanagh. Future releases include Magissa (white wine cask), Warlock (red wine cask) and Seihdr (rum cask). In addition there are the Traditional and Rebis series: Traditional is a bottle with 46% ABV in 700 ml bottles with a limited number of cask combinations; Rebis is natural strength in 500 ml bottles to showcase individual cask characteristics. Transfiguration has been announced as upcoming and includes miniature bottles and cask tastings. The miniature box allows tasting of different styles, including four 50 ml bottles.

Philosophy Tria Prima represents the three elements of alchemy: barley, water and oak. We combine these with the yeast's magical catalyst and traditional techniques to craft spirits that approach the pursuit of the sublime without claiming to be perfect. Our philosophy is to respect tradition, use premium ingredients (including South Australian barley) and keep production limited to ensure quality and transparency. We see Tria Prima as a journey toward understanding spirits and the nature of life, and we follow the principles behind alchemy's materia and the philosopher's stone, which symbolize perfection in the process.
