History

Riverbourne Distillery was founded in 2015 and is a boutique distillery based in Jingera, New South Wales (just south of Captains Flat). Martin Pye runs a two-person operation where he mashes, ferments, distills and ages his range of boutique whiskies and rums, while his wife Eileen handles bottling, labeling, paperwork and distribution. The natural spring water source, the climate and the mountainous environment give the spirits a unique flavor profile that is distinctive to the region. The distillery has over 15,000 liters of rum and whisky aging in French and American casks (minimum 3 years) and has various representations of whisky available now.

Production

Martin Pye is the sole owner and a third-generation member of a family of pharmacists; he has studied microbiology, biochemistry, chemistry and mathematics. He has been mentored by Dean Jackson from Redland's Distillery, in a course designed by Bill Lark, and he mashes, ferments and distills with great passion and obsessive attention to detail. His background and history give him a deep understanding of the processes behind producing world-class spirits.

It's in My Blood

Under the 'It's in My Blood' tab, the family's connection to distilling is described, including the story of Joseph Pye Junior and a reference to distilling being almost inherited in the family. From this, a strong belief emerges that distilling runs in the blood, and that the story of 'DNA' plays a role in the distillery's identity.

Logo and Identity

The logo is connected to the family apothecary heritage and Horus' Eye, which provides a graphic expression that recalls apothecary craft and the historical connection to healing.

Enigma Single Malt Whisky

2025 Limited Edition Riverbourne Distillery release: Enigma Single Malt Whisky. Presented at cask strength with notes of aged oak, leather and fruit, ABV 57.8% and 500 ml. Enigma is described as an evolutionary experience, where the glass changes over time.

Ultimatum No. 5, 'The Challenge'

A whisky that opens with hints of strong oak and fortified wine notes, later fruits and citrus; ABV 48%, volume 500 ml. Described as a whisky that develops in the glass with notes of red fruit, vanilla and caramel, and a viscous texture.

Identity The Source is a single malt with the character of the whisky itself and its unique fermentation; ABV 48%, 500 ml.
