Historie

  • The founders of Poor Toms, Jesse and Griff, met on the first day of school. In 2013 they spent all their savings to acquire a distillation facility and began making gin in the Sydney area. Poor Toms is described as one of the pioneers of the new wave of Australian distilling, with a mission to bring real pleasure to people's lives through audacious and honest spirits, particularly gin.
  • A fabled reference is used for Poor Tom as an archetypal philosopher, and the spark behind the name connects to Thomas, which is Jesse's and Griff's middle name. The point is to drink gin to transcend reality and regularly cast identities aside.

Produktion/Fremstilling

  • Poor Toms produces gin and other spirits such as amaro and vodka. Oltra is described as a cocktail bar inside a pizza restaurant within a gin distillery, with opening hours: Wednesday to Friday 4-10, Saturday 12-22 and Sunday 14-20.
  • Vodka starts as a by-product of industrial wheat processing, is redistilled and charcoal-filtered in Marrickville. The three-step process yields a clear and simple white spirit.
  • Fool’s Cut Gin is 52% ABV and described as a rich, classic and full-bodied gin with a pronounced juniper backbone and a licorice/juniper finish; botanicals include: juniper, coriander seeds, angelica root, cinnamon, cardamom, cubeb pepper, chamomile, licorice root and grapefruit rind.
  • Piña Colada Gin blends pineapple and coconut with juniper, lime, pandan, cloves and nutmeg, among several other ingredients.
  • Sydney Dry Gin has a juniper backbone with additions such as green apples, strawberry gum leaf and chamomile, together with lemon myrtle, coriander, angelica root, cinnamon, cardamom and cubeb-pepper.
  • Strawberry Gin is infused with fresh strawberries, fresh ginger and hibiscus in Sydney Dry Gin and adds cardamom, cubeb-pepper, lemon myrtle and chamomile to highlight sweetness and complexity.
  • The Eye Opener – Everyday Coffee x Poor Toms Coffee Gin is a collaboration product with Everyday Coffee. It has 40% ABV and 700 ml, with Rwanda Gitesi filter coffee and notes of pine and juniper, spicy profile, creamy milk chocolate and berry notes; there are only 300 bottles. Uses include adding to morning coffee, Negroni or Espresso Martini.
  • Imbroglio Amaro is a bitter/sweet amaro with 25 herbs and fruits, to suit negroni, spritz or on the rocks. Botanicals include hibiscus, marjoram, oranges, rhubarb, fennel, beetroot, marshmallow root, coriander, wormwood, strawberry gum leaf, allspice and gentian. Also includes Poor Toms Strawberry Gin. Amaro has medals such as SILVER 2019 International Wine & Spirits Awards.
  • Imbroglio Amaro and other products convey an impression of a detailed botanical approach and a reference to Australian craftsmanship in gin and amaro.
