History

Morris of Rutherglen is described as Australia’s most award-winning wine and whisky brand and has since 1859 produced world-famous fortified wines. With over 165 years of craftsmanship and six generations of winemaking, Morris has built a strong legacy in Rutherglen. According to the company, they combine a deep respect for tradition with an unwavering curiosity that drives the development of a distinct Australian single malt whisky, while continuing the heritage of their award-winning fortified wines.

Production and Approach

Morris Whisky creation takes place with 100% Australian ingredients and malted barley, which are brewed and fermented in the family-owned brewery. The original still, called Aurora, was made in the 1930s and installed in 1941; an identical second still called Ella also exists. Pure water is used throughout the process. Maturation occurs primarily in a combination of French and American oak casks, sourced as ex-wine casks from family-owned vineyards in Barossa and Coonawarra, and these casks are prepared in the family's private cooperage. Special finish casks have previously contained Morris’ award-winning fortified wines, giving the whisky a unique Morris flavor profile.

• Morris Whisky Muscat Barrel 46% 700mL – a combination of French and American oak, finished in casks that have held Morris Muscat Fortified wine.
• Morris Whisky Tokay Barrel 48% 700mL – all Australian ingredients; matured in French/American ex-red wine casks and finished in Tokay fortified wine cask.
• Morris Whisky Sherry Barrel 46% 700mL – matured in ex-wine casks and finished in casks that have contained Morris Apera (Sherry).
• Morris Whisky Exclusive Cellar Reserve Signature 44% 700mL – selected by the head distiller and bottled at 44% ABV; deeper and more intense flavour than Signature.
• Morris Whisky Exclusive Cellar Reserve Muscat Barrel 48% 700mL – 48% ABV; greater depth and intensity, finished in casks that have held Morris Muscat Fortified.
• Morris Whisky Ltd Edt. Smoked Muscat Barrel 48.3% 700mL – limited edition with strong oak and smoky notes from charred casks, combined with Morris Muscat character.
• Morris Whisky Ltd Edt. Smoked Sherry Barrel 50% 700mL – limited edition with smoke and sherry influence, at 50% ABV.
