Historie
Maison Peyrat is a family-owned Cognac house with roots in the Corrèze region. According to the house's story, Henri Peyrat was a leading force behind the founding of the Cognac house in the early 20th century, with the aim of passing on a timeless love of craftsmanship as part of the French lifestyle. The history has been carried forward through four generations, with Jean Peyrat taking over leadership in 1948, followed by Henri in 1968 and Philippe later, who in 2000 returned to join his brother and in 2005 became the sole owner. Clémence and Édouard contribute today to marketing and business development. Over the years the house has maintained a strong connection to the terroir and Cognac tradition as its core focus.
Peyrat Cognacs are produced and blended with consideration for terroir and tradition, and are characterized by a belief that longer aging in oak yields higher quality and intensity. The house's brief description speaks of a passion for Cognac, rum and whisky as well as a commitment to preserving savoir-faire and openness to innovation.
Production / Manufacturing
Production and range are centered around Cognac and other spirits, but the whisky offering is represented through Villa n°16. The house's products span from younger to older Cognacs and vintage variants, with typical designations including VS, VSOP, XO, Extra and vintage Cognacs. VS is described as a blend of young and powerful four-year-old Cognacs, VSOP as a blend of 5–6 year old Cognacs, and XO as a blend of spirits older than 15 years, all sourced from selected parcels and regions. Extra is produced from some of the older spirits; these can be part of Grand Champagne and undergo longer aging in new and used oak casks to achieve a full fruity bouquet and balanced finish. Le Chaigne Organic Cognac is produced as an organic blend, double-distilled and aged in oak for at least 5 years, then a further 6 months in Sauternes casks. Liqueur d’orange is produced using natural orange zest extracts blended with a young Cognac and aged in casks for 6 months, before being brought to 40% alcohol.
In addition, the house offers the Moko Rum series (Agrum, Caribbean, Panama-distilled 8, 15 and 20 years) and Moko Spiced, which expands the family's portfolio of spirits and flavors. Villa n°16 is the house's latest whisky addition and is described as a French-produced single malt, aged in French and American oak casks for 3 years, and then further aged in Cognac and Pineau des Charentes casks, giving a complex and powerful aromatic profile.
