History
Weinhaus Kilian is a traditional, modern and innovative family business in Güntersleben near Würzburg. The Kilian family consists of Kathrin, Michael and the daughters Ellen and Klara Kilian. We love the values that define our wines: mineral freshness, naturalness and Genuss.
Development
In 1997, Michael Kilian took over the former agricultural operation and developed it into Weinhaus Kilian. We expanded the range and began cultivating Silvaner; later we added Riesling, Dornfelder, Kerner and Scheurebe through collaboration with fellow winemakers.
Production / Manufacturing
Our wines come from Günterslebener Sommerstuhl, located between Maintal and Thüngersheim. The area is protected by muschelkalk beds and sand-lime soil. We primarily work with 1.5 hectares of vineyards, where we hand-harvest and bottle the wine in our own cellar. We also produce Brände and Whisky in our in-house Brennerei. In 2017, Michael Kilian completed his training as a Brenner, and thus we have the opportunity to offer Edelbrände, Weinbrand and Tresterbrand.
Whisky
In 2018 our first house-owned single malt whisky hit the market. It is characterized by fruity lemon aromas and a gently smoky finish.
Products / Whisky Series
Our whisky is single malt and produced in our own Brennerei. In addition to whisky, we offer wines, Seccos and Brände as part of our range.
Visits / Experiences
Guests can experience our products through tastings with purchases, spirit tastings or as part of events in our Gewölbekeller. We also offer Weinbergswanderungen and other events in connection with our events section.
Philosophy & Sustainability
All of our products are clean, honest Franconian nature in a glass. We value mineral freshness, naturalness and Genuss. We offer bottle-return schemes and work to reduce CO2 emissions; we also generate electricity through our own PV installation.
Recognitions
The whisky has received recognition, including Bayern Brand 2020 (Gold and Silver) and the Frankfurt International Trophy 2021, where our product was named winner in the category Best Wine of the Competition – All Countries (Germany) for Franken – Maindreieck – Prädikatswein – Eiswein – Weiß 2016.
