History
Specialties – Brauerei Eckart in Lindhorst was founded in 2005. On May 17, 2007, the formal opening of our brewery took place. The guest area in the brewery features an open-beam construction and a fireplace, as well as brewing and filling equipment, which creates an interesting and cozy atmosphere. In our small brewery we produce exclusively naturally unfiltered beers. In September 2022 we were able to put our new brewing plant into operation – funded by the LEADER funding program.
Brewers Christian and Jürgen Eckart (on the right) are responsible for the brewing process – from milling to bottle labels. They place emphasis on a natural brewing process that preserves the beer's full value, and the result is natural beers that do not require filtration to clarify. All essential ingredients remain in the beer. This has already convinced many visitors, brewing course participants and customers.
Production / Manufacturing
Among the brewery's equipment, the brewing and filling machine is located in the guest wing. Generally we brew about once a week, and in each of the two typical brew cellars about 1000 liters of beer can be brewed. In the cellars' cooling rooms at 2 °C, the naturally unfiltered beers get the necessary rest to mature. Here around 5000 liters of beer are stored until it is bottled or tapped into kegs and delivered.
After maturation, the various varieties are filled on our own filling line and poured into our special Bügelflaschen or special jewel bottles. In addition to the regular beer types Cannabium, Honigbock, Spezial and Kaiser-Otto Bräu, which are regularly brewed, we occasionally produce special beers with particular aromas. We place emphasis on natural, unfiltered processes, which preserve the beer's full content.
In the cellar at 2 °C, naturally unfiltered beers get the necessary rest to mature, and when the maturation is complete about 5000 liters of beer are stored until it is tapped and delivered after 4–8 weeks. After maturation the beer is tapped on our own filling line. The LEADER funding used in 2022 has resulted in new technical equipment.
Whisky Series / Products
Whisky Sherry
Whisky Sherry is an authentic malt described as a single cask / single barrel variant from a cask. It highlights a particularly rich and complex aroma and flavor spectrum and a full, rounded taste. Whisky Sherry is available in 0.05 L, 0.2 L and 0.5 L bottles, 40% ABV, and is an important part of our whisky range. There are also variants that are lightly peated or moderately peated – still in Sherry cask aging and in similar sizes.
Whisky Sherry lightly peated / moderately peated
We offer Whisky Sherry in variants where the malt is lightly or moderately peated, still described as malt and with Sherry cask aging. Available in 0.05 L, 0.2 L and 0.5 L bottles. The descriptions show how peat flavor contributes to the aroma and taste without changing the basic malt character.
Liqueur of Single Malt Whisky
There is also a liqueur produced from single malt whisky, where the base is an undiluted whisky, which is later aged further in its own cask before blending and bottling. Available in 0.05 L, 0.2 L and 0.5 L bottles, alcohol content typically around 40%.
Other spirits and gin related to noble distillates
In addition to the whisky range there are also several other products such as pomace brandy, cigar brandy, sugar beet brandy and a number of gin variants (including GIN 30 barrel-aged), showing that work is done with both traditional and more experimental distillates.
General notes on whisky production
Some of the products are described as single cask / single barrel and described as unfiltered malt whiskies, and there is reference to Sherry cask aging and peating as part of the flavor profile. Some products are also described as liqueurs based on single malt whisky and bottled in different bottle sizes.
Visits / Experiences
Through the website there is also the possibility of various courses and experiences, including: - Practical courses to brew your own beer (Brewing course) in-house, with a meal and tastings included. Gift vouchers for a brewing course are also available. - Distillat tastings (Distillat Verkostungen) as part of the visit experience (practical details can be found on related pages).
Philosophy
The brewery describes itself as a microbrewery that emphasizes natural brewing processes and unfiltered products to preserve the beer's full nutritional and aroma content and to offer products without filtration and additives. The LEADER funding support in 2022 to upgrade the brewing equipment shows a commitment to ongoing development and maintaining high quality through investment in equipment and processes. The underlying philosophy is to preserve nature's content and character in the products, and to offer unique beer and distillate products in small batches.
