History

Salzgeber is a family-owned distillery in Swabia, focusing on craftsmanship and extracting nature's finest aromas from simple ingredients. According to the site, the company is described as 'Handwerker des guten Geschmacks' and 'Familientradition und modernste Technik'. The approach is based on simple raw materials, the best fruits, solid knowledge, a great deal of love, and modern technology. The website also describes botanicals, Probebrand, technique, distillation, control, maturation, and aging as central parts of the process. The older copper distillation fleet has existed for more than 40 years, and in 2022 a completely new distillation facility was invested in.

Production / Manufacturing

Distilled Edelobstbrände are produced exclusively from fully ripe fruits with nothing added except demineralised drinking water; they describe the products as pure and clear with a summer scent. The specialties are based on raw materials such as malted beers, wild fruits, herbs, or hazelnuts, and there are developed special storage and maturation processes for products such as Beste Zwetschge. Fugger Destillate is produced in small batches in Fuggermarkt Babenhausen, based on regional raw materials (e.g., Zwetschgen, Williams-Christ pears, by-products from old fruit orchards, and especially malted beers). Together with the regional tradition and small-batch distillation, quality is paramount.

Products / Whisky Series

Salzgeber offers Whisky under the Svevian name: Svevian Single Malt Whisky – a true treasure from Günztal. The whisky is made from regional malt and matures in four different types of wood, resulting in a complex and rounded profile. The current whisky edition is 40% ABV (Svevian Single Malt Whisky 40% ABV).

Visits and Experiences

Cocktail workshops are offered as an experience for customers. The site also describes tastings and aging as part of the craft, called Probebrand and Reifung, and emphasizes a practice-oriented approach without becoming too technical.
