Ulrike and Karl-Heinz Kohler run a farming life and a family business in Kappelrodeck. The first and most central thing is their love for their homeland and for one another, combined with a passion for wine production and distillation. Through Hofladen, Brennerei and Hofquartier, they bind tradition, nature, and the region’s guests together. Through the experiences in Hofladen, where regional products can be purchased, and through tastings of noble brandies and liqueurs in a modern tasting room, as well as through the cozy Hofquartier, visitors are presented with a holistic experience of home and the region.

Produktion og destillering

The fruits for brandies and liqueurs are all hand-picked. They combine traditional fruit- and distilling culture with modern technology, and during distillation a refined nose for aromas, patience, and a well-tuned nose and palate are required to translate the fruit aroma as faithfully as possible into the distillate. The range includes brandies and liqueurs such as Kirschwasser, Williams-Birnenbrand, Sauerkirschbrand, Quittenbrand, Sauerkirschlikør, Hindbærlikør, Kräuterlikør, gin and whisky. Auslese-Brände mature in wooden casks and become specialities; examples are Kirschwasser Benjaminler (aged in a cherrywood barrel), Muskateller Tresterbrand and Gewürztraminer Tresterbrand (5 years in wood). Mädesüß Dry Gin combines Mädesüß (meadowsweet), camomile, roses and classic botanicals for a unique gin experience.

Baden Whisky is produced from wheat and malt from the region, is double-distilled and matures first in bourbon barrels of American white oak, then for a year in port wine barrels, which gives a particularly fine fruity aroma with vanilla and oak notes, light bakery notes and soft spices. Another whisky in the range matures in a Rotweinfass and offers a more würzig profile. Both whiskies are single cask and available only in a limited edition. The brandies have won prizes and recognition, and they are happy to share their passion for distilling and the production of their selected specialties. Visits and Experiences Through Hofladen, visitors can purchase products and enjoy the opportunity to experience the region around the vineyards. There are also tastings of distillates and liqueurs in the modern tasting room, as well as a Bauernvesper during tastings. Tastings are offered by appointment and can accommodate groups from 12 to 25 people. Hofladen focuses on home production and regional specialties, and offers opportunities for individual tastings and experiences.

Hofladen also offers opening hours on Tuesdays from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM (brotbacktag) and by appointment. Hofquartier is a holiday accommodation linked to the site, and information about opportunities to stay in the surrounding Schwarzwald- and vineyard-scene is provided. For those seeking a broader experience, there is also the possibility to learn about the history and environment surrounding the regional farming and wine production.

Philosophy and sustainability The Kohler family feels a strong connection to their homeland and the region and regards obst and wine as part of the landscape and cultural heritage. Through their work, they contribute to landscape management, biodiversity, and the preservation of the unique Schwarzwald cultural landscape through an active approach to farming and wine production. They emphasize love of nature and of the people in the region and their guests as central values in their work.

Begivenheder

Events An annual Hoffest is held in April, where guests can experience pleasures, food and entertainment in connection with Kohlers destillationskultur and locally produced products. The event links the experience of the region and their distilling craft with a festive atmosphere.
