History

Edelbrände Preiser is a family-owned distillery in Stühlingen, run by a father and son. Roland Preiser discovered his passion for distilling in 1997, and seven years later his son Andres joined the hobby. Since then they have produced Edelbrände from fruit, kernels, grains and later spelt and rye, and more recently whisky and gin. With a focus on starting from high quality and pure handling, most raw materials are sourced from the local region, and much comes from their own cultivation. They take their time in the process and emphasize thoroughness, which has led to recognition in various awards over the years — including gold and silver medals and a placement among Baden Best Spirits Top Ten in 2018.

Production / Manufacturing

The distillation takes place in an oil-fired still. Whisky Edition 52 is a single malt with a pronounced peat note; 20% of the barley is malted and peated with Scottish peat. After distillation it is aged in a bourbon barrel and has an ABV of 52%. The total quantity for this single-cask edition is only 52 liters, and the bottles are available in 0.5 liter and 0.2 liter. In addition to whisky they produce Dinkelbrand – made from the finest spelt from a regional mill and treated with extra time and care. Dinkelbrand is described as healthy and nourishing, and they use a large portion of raw materials from the local area.
