History
Green River was founded in 1885 by J.W. McCulloch and is the 10th oldest registered distillery in Kentucky (DSP-KY-10). The brand is known as The Whiskey Without Regrets and has over the years won international awards. In 1913 Green River became the official whiskey for the U.S. Marine Hospital for 18 years due to its high quality, and in 1915 the slogan was changed to The Whiskey Without A Headache. In 1918 a fire broke out and destroyed more than 40,000 barrels. After Prohibition the distillery was rebuilt in 1933, and the brand changed the slogan to The Whiskey Without Regrets. Distribution ended in 1955, and from 1956-1993 the distillery was inactive. In 2014 reconstruction began, and in 2016 production was resumed at the site where it started 131 years ago. In 2022 Green River Bourbon was released, and in 2023 distribution was expanded to 25 states. In 2024 the brand added Rye to its range, and Green River stands today as Pride of Owensboro.
Production / Manufacturing
The distillery is located in Owensboro and produces a Kentucky straight bourbon that is fermented and aged on-site. They use locally grown grain for the production, and the entire process takes place on-site. Grain to Glass.
