Historie

O’Begley was established in 2011 and produces Premium New York State Whiskey using a small-batch pot still process. The grain is locally grown, and each batch is handled throughout the process—from milling the grain to bottling—at our distillery in Pittsford, New York. All ingredients are of the highest quality.

Since 1889, the land at Kilfountan Farm in County Kerry, Ireland, has been run by our family. Today it is a dairy farm, where farming traditions and hard work still shape daily life. Many distilleries are built by businesspeople and investors—but for us it was a different story, and we are proud to make our premium whiskey in Upstate New York.

To begin the construction we obtained a contractor's license and built the distillery by hand from the ground up over three years. Most of the equipment we use was salvaged from closed factories. Motors and fittings were sourced from obsolete production facilities in Rochester and Buffalo, pumps were bought from liquidated food-processing plants, and our stills are all built from old pharmaceutical reactors, refurbished and adapted for the production of our whiskey.

We place great emphasis on the quality of our products. Whiskey making is a detailed process, and the details of our small-batch production define us and the spirits we make.

Produkter / Whisky-serien

  • Old Kilfountan – A Premium New York State Pot Still Whiskey distilled in the Irish tradition. It is made from a fermented mash of locally grown barley, malted barley and oats. Aged in reused bourbon barrels and has characteristic spice notes and a delicate texture. Sediment is natural. The whiskey is not chill-filtered. At cooler temperatures the congeners from the cask maturation crystallize out of solution and into the spirit.

  • Poitin – Traditional White Whiskey. Our Poitin has a smooth and fresh grain-forward character with a hint of fennel and white peppercorns. The aftertaste sweetness has grown and the viscosity is light. It is made from 75% barley, 20% malted barley and 5% oats, gently fermented with a beer-style yeast prior to distillation.   • Chocolate Cream Liqueur – The perfect dessert liqueur for special occasions. Each batch is carefully crafted with natural flavors of dark chocolate, brownie and vanilla.

  • Whiskey Cream Liqueur – Made from the finest blend of our award-winning small-batch Old Kilfountan Whiskey and 100% New York State dairy cream. It is smooth and luxurious.
