History

New Liberty Distillery has its roots in Philadelphia and moved after 10 years at 1431 N. Cadwallader Street to a larger production facility through a joint effort with Faber Spirits to increase production in the Northeast U.S. The entire Millstone Spirits team comes under one roof to continue producing some of the finest spirits. If you’ve ever wondered how a distillery is built, they promise to show the steps along the way. All of their spirits are available online, and you can pick them up at the new site on Mondays and Fridays. There are plans for a future tasting room and bottle shop, and in the meantime you can visit the satellite locations Enswell, The Bar Cart, and The Stotesbury. Rome wasn’t built in a day ... Philadelphia. Welcome to New Liberty.

Production and Manufacturing

New Liberty focuses on grain-to-glass whiskey and offers revival brands such as Kinsey, French-inspired liqueurs, pot-still rums, as well as seltzers and canned cocktails. The products can be purchased at the distillery or shipped to all of Pennsylvania. Their focus is on producing a variety of whiskies and combinations, including Bloody Butcher Bourbon (100% PA) in various varieties and finishes, as well as the Kinsey series with bourbon, rye, scotch (blended whiskey) and single barrel editions. In addition to whiskey they produce Liberty Belle liqueurs and house spirits such as Cradle of Liberty Agave Spirit, Powderhorn Vodka, Snug Harbor Gin and Ships Haven Rum. A particular focus is on Pennsylvania terroir: Bloody Butcher Bourbon matures in Pennsylvania American White Oak casks from Nadalie in Kittanning, PA, which impart notes of toasted marshmallow, butter, dried fruit, along with minerality and spices from the wood.

Agave spirit and aged agave are often influenced by oak type and finish, for example by aging in Millstone Rye Whiskey finish casks to add leather and bitter orange. Several products are described with notes of both agave and simple syrup as well as different finishes from different cask types.

Philosophy

New Liberty Distillery describes itself as a player that reinterprets some of the brands that made Pennsylvania famous through their Heritage Collection. They also create their own whiskeys based on local ingredients and operate under master distiller Robert Cassell. Their overarching goal is to make Pennsylvania rye whiskey world-famous again, and the slogan is: 'We didn’t invent spirits and we didn’t invent Liberty, but we’re making them New.' Welcome to New Liberty.
