History
Laws Whiskey House is a Colorado-based distillery, aiming to rekindle Great American Whiskey by creating unique and bold flavor experiences. Our grain-forward style is based on high-quality corn and heritage wheat, barley and rye grown by two Colorado family-owned farms (Cody’s in San Luis Valley and Ohnmacht’s on the eastern plains). We use time-tested production techniques that showcase each grain’s terroir and result in singular and innovative whiskies. We use minerals and grains that mass production has forgotten.
Our terroir as our main strength
Our whiskey is terroir-driven and requires the thin air, warm days and cool nights of the Rocky Mountain region, as well as the stressed growing environment in the San Luis Valley and on the eastern plains. There are no shortcuts at Laws. We distill every drop, we bottle, and we did not sell whiskey in the first three years, as time is considered a central ingredient alongside our heirloom and farm grains. Each mash bill has its own optimal distillation process, and we use time-intensive sour mash fermentation. We were the first in Colorado to bottle bonded whiskeys.
The collaboration at Laws Village
At Laws, the Master Distiller is not a single title. We believe it takes the whole Laws Village – the employees, our community – to make our whiskey. In Laws Village you’re part of something bigger than yourself. Whiskey Above All is our creed, and our work is more a lifestyle than a business.
Production / Manufacturing
Our production is grain-forward and based on heritage and heirloom grains: corn, wheat, barley and rye, grown by two Colorado family farms. We use Eldorado Springs artesian springs to proof our whiskey and all equipment is located in Denver, Colorado – from milling to aging.
- We use time-tested techniques that highlight each grain’s terroir. Each mash bill has its own optimal distillation process, and we employ time-intensive sour mash fermentation.
- We distill every drop we bottle – no aging outside the house.
- We are proud to be a Bonded producer and to have introduced Colorado’s first bottled-in-bond practice.
- Mash bills are built on four key grains: corn, wheat, barley and rye. Our water sources and Colorado terroir provide character and depth in each expression.
- Currently our products include: Four Grain Bourbon (a bourbon based on corn, wheat, rye and barley), San Luis Valley Rye, Centennial Wheat, Henry Road Malt, and continuing in the ORIGINS series and other limited releases.
Products / Whisky Series
Laws offers a range of expressions and series that reflect our terroir and craft: - Bourbon, Rye, Wheat and Malt categories in Bonded/Straight/Cask variants, as well as Limited Release. - ORIGINS Series: INTENTION (2022) – a blend of older and younger barrels of Four Grain Bourbon for complexity; CORNERSTONE (2023) – a vertical blend of San Luis Valley Rye; SUPER WHEATER (2024) – a high-wheat expression that blends Four Grain Bourbon with 100% Centennial Wheat; MOSAIC (2025) – an American Single Malt composed of eight different malt barrels and originally conceived to mark the beginning of a new era in American Single Malt. MOSAIC is available exclusively in Laws Whiskey Sanctuary. - Noted products and campaigns: Ralphie’s Reserve Bourbon (CU Athletics official whiskey), Black & Gold Select (CU Athletics exclusive limited release), Four Pack Sampler (Four Expression-inspired), as well as Henry Road Straight Malt and Centennial Wheat (malt). - The four items in ORIGINS lineup include INTENTION (2022), CORNERSTONE (2023), SUPER WHEATER (2024) and MOSAIC (2025). MOSAIC is described as an eight-barrel maceration with a blend of different malt profiles and aging conditions, yielding a layered and balanced profile. - Aspirational products and concepts are also described as: Laws 4-Pack Sampler (Four different expressions in 100 ml), Laws Bottle Sales Menu and various tasting experiences in Sanctuary.

Philosophy
- Terroir is our Master: Colorado air, warm days and cool nights give the distinctive flavor.
- There are no shortcuts at Laws: we distill every drop and were not willing to sell whiskey in the first three years, as time is considered a central ingredient just as important as the heirloom wheat and grains we use.
- Master Distiller is a Village: there is no single title; everyone in Laws Village contributes to making the whiskey – 'Whiskey Above All.'
- We are champions of whiskey as a religion, not merely a business; our work is driven by a deep passion and dedication to quality and terroir.
Additional details
- The ORIGINS series was started in 2011 with 28 selected casks and has since traversed through many releases and rebrandings to reflect the company’s continued evolution in Colorado and American craft.
- MOSAIC is a contemporary reflection of the new American single malt movement and emphasizes the blending of different malt profiles and cask finishes.
- Philanthropy and regional outreach: The CORNERSTONE sale from the Origins series supports charitable organizations in Colorado through 10% of profits, and the Colorado Gives Day objective is part of this community involvement.
