History

Iron Wolf Ranch & Distillery is a Texas-based craft distillery in Spicewood. The brand describes itself as Bold Spirits, Texas Attitude, and is inspired by Luna, a Siberian Grey Wolf. The company was founded in 2014 and opened its doors in 2017. The property is 15 acres with views of the Hill Country, and the site was designed and built by the team themselves over four years as an opportunity to create an Alpha-class craft distillery. The Still House houses distillation equipment, tasting rooms and a full bar, surrounded by shady patio areas and a Bourbon Garden and stage for live music. Fine packaging and bottle design with a unique dog paw emblem are part of the Iron Wolf brand.

Production

The productions are craft and based on premium and natural ingredients with a distinct Texas flair. Iron Wolf has a vision of a destination where people gather; the site is built to be an experience with live music, tastings and tours. The ambitious approach to processes and design is evident in the distinctive bottle shape and branding, and in the tasting rooms located in the Still House near the patio areas and tables. They have spent four years working on the planning and realization of the ranch and distillery, and expansions are planned.

Products / Whisky Series

• Hotscotch: butterscotch- and pepper-flavored whiskey, 34.5% ABV. Sweet caramel and vanilla notes with a touch of oak and a spicy finish.
• Iron Hot: cinnamon whiskey with Texas heat, 34.5% ABV.
• Select Bourbon Whiskey: bourbon with a high-rye mash bill, over 5 years aging in new oak barrels, 45% ABV. Notes of vanilla, caramel, molasses, tobacco and coffee.
• Giddy Up Horseradish Vodka: horseradish-infused vodka, 40% ABV.
• Gin: Award-winning gin with citrus and a light juniper base, 40% ABV.
• Vodka: 100% corn-based, seven times distilled and charcoal-filtered, 40% ABV.
• Barrel-aged Rum: medium-bodied rum made from molasses, aged about two years in used Bourbon barrels, distillery-exclusive and not sold in stores, 40% ABV.
• Straight Rye Whiskey: limited run of Straight Rye through a hot barrel aging process; extra corn in the recipe; 6 years; 45% ABV; available exclusively at the Ranch and in Spec’s.

Visits / Experiences

Iron Wolf Ranch & Distillery is a living gathering place with live music on two outdoor stages and indoors, The Den. The property has 15 acres with panoramic Hill Country views and offers cocktails, flights, tastings and guided tours. There is an on-site cigar lounge and Blackthorn Catering food truck. The hours are Friday 16–20, Saturday 12–20 and Sunday 12–18. Dogs are welcome on a leash. There is a playground, outdoor games and fire pits. You can meet Luna, the wolf and the inspiration behind the name, and ongoing events and private events are held.
