Historie
Hartman’s Distilling Company is a Buffalo, New York-based distillery that looks back to a time when summer days were long and family and friends gathered on the porch. It was founded by Jen and Justin Hartman, who returned to Buffalo to live in the moment and enjoy fine spirits together with those they care about. Justin is a master distiller and has studied distilling, barreling, and blending through courses and experience, including schooling in Louisville. His approach is based on understanding how aging and climate affect flavor, and he builds on techniques rooted in 18th-century wine traditions. Hartman’s believes that Western New York's climate makes aging particularly favorable, and the distillery is housed in a building that once housed The Cooperage, a landmark in Buffalo's industrial history. The Cooperage was part of E.B. Homes Machining Co., which made machinery for wooden barrels. Hartman’s sees its distillery as part of a shared history and future for the industry, and the aim is to share this experience with customers.
Produktion / Fremstilling
Hartman’s Distilling Company designs its space as a learning experience, so customers can understand how products are made, which ingredients are used, and why they taste good. Justin Hartman is a master distiller and has studied distilling, barreling, and blending for years, including taking courses in Louisville. He learned to master aging and blending using techniques rooted in 18th-century French wine traditions. According to Hartman’s, a significant portion of the flavor comes from the barrels – 60-70 percent of a spirit's flavor comes from the oak barrel. The distillery is designed to be an immersive learning experience, so customers know how the products are made and which ingredients are used.
