Door County Distillery was Door County's first distillery since Prohibition and opened in 2011. It is located in Carlsville, Wisconsin, in the same building as Door Peninsula Winery, which makes it easy to spend an afternoon on-site.

The spirits are handcrafted in small batches and produced with local Wisconsin ingredients. The distillery uses limestone water and a portfolio of botanicals for gin, including eight botanicals such as coriander, black pepper and anise, as well as orange peel. Single Malt Whisky is produced using 100% barley mash from Shipwrecked Brew Pub in Egg Harbor. Bourbon whiskey is produced in a traditional American style with a Door County twist; Rye whiskey is described as spicy and intense and is distilled with Door County's naturally limestone-filtered water. Door Peninsula Winery's wines are used for Brandy and Cherry Brandy Liqueur (Cherry Brandy and Apple Brandy). The distillery also produces brandy, Apple Brandy and Cherry Brandy using Door Peninsula Winery's wines and grape varieties. Additionally, there is a range of rum and vodka in the portfolio.

The portfolio includes Bourbon whiskey, Rye whiskey, and Single Malt Whisky. Tasting notes: Bourbon whiskey – sweet corn, oak and a pleasant bite; Rye whiskey – pepper, spicy notes and caramel; Single Malt Whisky – caramel, honey and toffee. All three whisky varieties are 80 proof.

Besøg / Oplevelser

The distillery is located in Carlsville and is connected with Door Peninsula Winery. Tastings are available year-round; samples cost $2 each, and you can build your own flight. There is an outdoor Cocktail Garden to enjoy handcrafted cocktails and a spirit flight. Tours run on the hour from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and last about 25 minutes and are free. Upgrades include a glass of wine, 2 oz. chocolate-covered cherries and a Door County Distillery glass for $18. Reservations are not required for individuals or small groups; for large groups (15+), advance contact is recommended. Wisconsin law does not permit shipping of spirits; they can only be purchased in Wisconsin's selection and in the tasting room.
