History
Origins
Dogfish Head emerged in June 1995 when they opened Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats, the town's first brewpub and at the same time the smallest commercial brewery in the USA. The history began with small 12-gallon batches and three brews daily for the restaurant.
Expansion into Spirits and Frankenstill
In 2002 they began exploring spirits and converted a steel tank into a pot still, which was named Frankenstill. Since then, the distillation activities have moved to the Milton campus, where Frankenstill stands guard.
Expansions and Experiences
In 2013, Dogfish Inn in Lewes opened as a base for beer lovers and adventurers. In 2016, Chesapeake & Maine opened, a seafood and cocktails restaurant inspired by coastal ingredients. In 2019, Dogfish Head became part of the Boston Beer Company, and together they expanded to strengthen beer, spirits, and Off-Centered experiences.
Products and Philosophy
Dogfish Head has been distilling spirits since 2002 and describes its range as made with real cooking ingredients and a curious approach, and occasionally whiskies. Their offerings span beers and spirits such as gins and vodkas, as well as rich whiskies. They continue to deliver Off-Centered flavors and avoid following the mainstream rhythm.
Visits and Experiences
Events and experiences include Brewings & Eats, Chesapeake & Maine, Dogfish Inn, and Milton Brewery. There are tours, Benevolence activities, the Dogfish Dash and Beer & Benevolence programs, as well as Off-Centered Society membership.
Philosophy
Their philosophy includes being Off-Centered, not chasing trends, and thinking outside the box, which is reflected in their history and their products.
