History

Chattermark Distillers is Boston’s Whiskey House, describing itself as 100% "Made From Scratch" with the motto "No Sourcing. No Shortcuts." They focus on producing spirits from scratch with locally attuned ingredients reflecting New England. Their production and flavor are built on locally grown grains and a commitment to operate without importing in-house ingredients, which is reflected in their strong focus on creating spirits from scratch.

Production / Manufacturing

Their approach is deeply rooted in craft and integrity: they grow and use only local sources, and they describe their processes as "Made From Scratch" with a focus on going all the way from grain to bottle. A central detail is that their Single Malt Whisky comes from Maine Malthouse as the sole grain source, underscoring a New England narrative in the base raw materials. Straight Rye and other products are mentioned as parts of a broad portfolio, where they rely on a slow mash, long fermentation, and a double pot distillation for some of their whiskies. Many of the spirits mature in ex-bourbon, ex-rye, and ex-rum casks, with a few exceptions, and some products are clearly indicated as "currently aging".

Products / Whisky Series

  • Straight Rye Whisky: A new English-inspired, English-leaning rye expression aged for over two years in American oak barrels; described with notes of spice and silkiness, with elements of dried fruits, sandalwood, cinnamon and vanilla. (40+ %ABV).
  • Straight Bourbon Whisky: Batch 2, a blend from four cask finishes tailored to highlight sweet corn, toffee, brown sugar, and cigar-box nasal notes; drawn from four different cask finishes and aged four years plus. (47 % ABV)
  • White Rye: Pot & Column White Rye, handmade from New England winter rye with a touch of malted barley; a clean spirit with a combination of pot and column distillation methods, providing complexity – often enjoyed neat or as a base in cocktails. (48 % ABV)
  • Straight Corn Whisky: An American corn-based whiskey (at least 80% corn) released at cask strength; aged in ex-rye casks and released in Limited Release, with notes of grass, candy apple, raisins, and brown sugar. (111 Proof / 55.5% ABV; has previously sold out.)
  • Straight American Whisky: An American straight backbone built on single-sourced New England grain, through complex fermentation and double-pot distillation; described as a fairly "aging" spirit. (80+ Proof, 47% ABV)
  • Single Malt Whisky: A single malt based on Maine Malthouse grain, maturing primarily in ex-bourbon, ex-rye and ex-rum casks; the spirit is currently aging and will continue to mature with time under the influence of the New England climate. (47% ABV)
  • Coasta Forest Gin: A gin inspired by New England's ancient forests, with foraged sanka and special botanicals, including a blend of birch, sumac, sage, white pine and zested lemon peel, which complement coriander, orris root and angelica.
  • Gift Packs: Three 200 ml bottles (Straight Rye, Straight Bourbon, Gin) including a logo sticker and two shot glasses (only in the tasting room).
  • Other: "Gently aging" categories for American Whisky and Single Malt Whisky contain products that are still aging.
