History

  • Burlock and Barrel Distillery is located in Jacksonville, Florida. According to the site, everything is made 100% by hand from grain to glass: they mill their own grain, cook their own rice for Whisper, and store and age their spirits at the distillery in Jacksonville. They state that they do not take shortcuts and do everything from scratch.
  • The inspiration and the name come from the story of Ben and Bill McCoy in the 1910s; they ran a dock at Jacksonville Shipyards and bootlegged spirits from Bimini; the real McCoy became an expression for the genuine article, and Bill McCoy is also said to have invented burlock (the phenomenon of six straw-wrapped bottles). Hence the name Burlock and Barrel.
  • Whisper won gold at the John Barleycorn Awards 2019 for Rice Whiskey Taste and Flavor as well as packaging and design; Burlock and Barrel also mentions other memories and references to whiskey events.
