History

Boone County Distilling Company is a Kentucky distillery that celebrates the traditional Kentucky bourbon tradition and craftsmanship. The mottos are "True Kentucky Bourbon" and "Made By Ghosts". According to the website, the company was first established in 1833 and reborn in 2015 to honor the Kentucky designation and the distilling history, while producing authentic handcrafted bourbon in the northern highlands of Kentucky – one barrel at a time.

Production / Manufacturing

The distillery offers a unique Single Barrel program, where their distilling team carefully selects four barrels of their Straight Bourbon Whiskey for tasting. Since each barrel matures at its own pace, unique flavor profiles and characters are achieved. All single barrel bottles are bottled at cask strength and come in 750 ml bottles. A barrel typically yields between 162-180 bottles, depending on age, evaporation, and other factors. One can buy a whole barrel or a half barrel. The price typically ranges between 7,000 and 10,000 USD. From barrel selection to delivery, the process can take 60-90 days. Each participant receives a small gift, and you can have a personalized label on the neck or the side of the label.

The core of the range is Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. The Single Barrel program offers the opportunity to buy private barrels, bottled at barrel strength. All single barrel bottles are sold at cask strength, and the bottles are 750 ml with the option of a unique label or neck tag/side sticker to memorialize the choice.

Visits / Experiences

Visitors can explore the distillery through guided tours and tastings. Two tours are offered: Grain to Glass Experience (a guided tour and tasting) and Guided Tasting Flight (a 15-minute guided tasting). The tours run Tuesday to Sunday with set times; Grain to Glass Experience lasts about 1 hour, while the tour includes a 15-minute final tasting. The distillery is located in Boone County, KY, and is dog-friendly during the tours.
