Historie
All Points West Distillery is located in Newark’s Ironbound and is named after the Jersey Central Railroad, which connected Ellis Island with All Points West. They offer an Atlantic interpretation of old-world distilling and produce in small batches in Newark, only 6 miles from America’s first distillery. Founder Gil Spaier moved to Ironbound and was fascinated by the immigrants' history and the water quality in Newark's Watershed, which has been an important part of the production. The distillery opened in 2017 and has since won numerous awards, including Whisky of the Year and gold medals at USA Spirits Ratings, as well as recognition for packaging and design.
Produktion / Fremstilling
Historical techniques from the Netherlands, Ireland, Scotland, and Britain blend with American approaches to create products in small batches in Newark. APW produces two transatlantic pot still whiskeys, and all production is grain-to-bottle at the distillery in Newark’s Ironbound. Malt milling occurs on-site, where malt comes from County Cork, Ireland, and milling of the grain (primarily organic New York state corn) takes place on-site. Fermentation occurs in small open wash backs, and distillation is carried out in two Holstein-style copper and stainless steel stills. Aging takes place in virgin American white oak barrels and bottling also takes place on-site. The whiskies are 92 proof and described with notes of cedar and light smoke, as well as fruity and spicy elements.
Distillery services also include a range of other products and limited editions: Malt and Grain Pot Still Whiskey and Grain and Malt Pot Still Whiskey are described as two historic pot still whiskeys—both produced in Newark. In addition, Mid-Atlantic Pot Still Rye, Kill Van Kull Rum, Cathouse Gin and Cathouse Pink Pepper Gin as well as Bone Black Vodka and Bone Black Black Pepper Vodka are produced. Limited editions include Stout-Cask Finish and Cask-Strength editions.
