History

Woodstone Creek is Ohio's first microdistillery and a true craft wine producer. They produce wines, mead, and distilled spirits in small batches, with a strong focus on craftsmanship and tradition. Founded in January 1999, the company moved from Lebanon to Cincinnati to open a tasting room in 2001 and moved again to St. Bernard in 2013. The initiative for Ohio's first craft distillery began when the winemaker teamed up with an Ohio senator to create the A3(a) permit. The winemaker is a certified brewmaster, mead mazer, and master distiller in one person, and all fermentation arts are gathered at Woodstone Creek.

Production and Approach

There are no production lines or computers; the wines, mead, and spirits are completely handmade. Each ounce is barreled, bottled, and labeled by hand. The production focuses on small batches and craftsmanship at every stage, and this approach is reflected in the company's motto of 'Grain to Glass'.

Whisky Series and Products

Woodstone Creek produces small batches of spirits, including bourbon, single malt whisky (both peated and unpeated) and blended whiskey. The distillation takes place on a 238-gallon pot still designed by the distiller. Production occurs without cold filtration, without added color, and without enzymes, with traditional aging in full wooden casks.

Visits and Experiences

The tasting room is open to the public on Saturdays from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Private tastings can be booked Monday to Friday; a deposit is required and inquiries should be sent to woodstonecreek@yahoo.com. Saturday table bookings are not allowed, and the address is 4712 Vine Street, Cincinnati, OH 45217.

Philosophy

Woodstone Creek presents itself as an artisanal company dedicated to craftsmanship and authenticity. They combine wine, mead, and spirits through fermentation arts and a 'grain to glass' mindset. The common thread in their approach is small batches, the use of local ingredients (such as honey from a local apiary), and a long tradition of creating unique products through handmade production and traditional aging.
