About the Distillery

Union Horse Distilling Company is a family-owned distillery in the Kansas City area, founded in 2010. The company operates with a 'grain to glass' philosophy and produces handcrafted, small-batch spirits. The facility offers guided tours, a visitor room called Rider Room, and regular public events where guests can sample the distillery's award-winning products.

History

Union Horse started in 2010 as a family-owned and -operated distillery in the Midwest. Since its founding, the distillery has built a portfolio of artisanal spirits and prides itself on following the raw material through the entire process. Master Distiller and co-founder Patrick Garcia acts as the signatory on selected hand-numbered bottles. In parallel with production, Union Horse has established public offerings such as tours and social events in their Rider Room to share insight into the production flow from milling to bottling.

Raw Materials and Production

The production approach centers on small-batch processes and a grain-to-glass mindset. Tours describe a workflow from milling and mashing through fermentation to distillation, barreling and bottling, indicating control over the entire value chain. For example, a barrel-strength rye is produced from 100% rye mash; some releases are bottled uncut and without chill filtration. Bottles from selected barrels are hand-numbered and signed by the Master Distiller.

Maturation and Barrel Types

The distillery uses, among other things, a signature 'Missouri oak' barrel for some releases. A concrete example is a barrel-strength rye, aged 5–7 years and bottled straight from the barrel. Barrel selection and aging period are noted as important elements for certain single-cask or hand-selected releases.

Whiskies

The portfolio is described as a collection of authentic, artisanal spirits with both bourbon- and rye-releases noted on the website. Notably highlighted is a Reserve Straight Bourbon and Barrel Strength Reunion Rye Whiskey; the latter is documented as a hand-numbered, uncut rye product aged 5–7 years. The products are distributed through local retailers in several American states as well as through the website's shop/retailer system.
