Historie
Trailhead Spirits is a craft distillery located in the heart of Billings at 1400 S. 24th St. W. Suite 7. We are inspired to live and support locally and create exceptional spirits that reflect the soul of the community. The message – pursue your passion, chase your dreams – sums up our approach and responsibility.
According to our history, Trailhead Spirits began as a dream that lasted seven years, and became a reality early in 2013, after obtaining state and federal licenses, installing specialized equipment, and opening the distillery.
Family background significance runs through our development as well: wheat from the McGowan family in Highwood, MT is used as a raw material for our products, and the story about the Healy family provides the name for our gin and reflects a heritage in spirits and bootlegging in earlier times. We strive to support the local community and produce quality products on site.
Awards and recognition are part of our history, with many medals and awards for our products over the years.

Vores destilleri anvender en 300-liters håndbanket kobberstiller med en 16-pladet kolonne, designet af Arnold Holstein fra Markdorf, Tyskland, tilpasset vores plads og produktionsbehov. Dette unikke udstyr giver os fleksibilitet til at fremstille både klare spiritus og whiskyer og til at tilpasse produktionen efter kapacitet og tid.
We ferment, distill, dilute, filter, label and bottle all of our products on-site, and we place great emphasis on using local ingredients. We focus on high quality and our approach is supported by the affiliation with Great North Vodka and Healy’s Gin, which also illustrate our commitment to locally produced products and on-site processes.

Highwood Chocolate Flavored Whiskey
An innovative whiskey made from Montana wheat and specially malted grains, flavored with dark-roasted cocoa nibs and vanilla. It starts sweet and is followed by notes of caramel and toffee with a captivating cocoa finish.
Highwood Rye Malt Whiskey
A robust Rye Whiskey that captures American whiskey heritage with a bold flavor profile like a Montana night. Notes of dried fruit, toffee, tobacco and vanilla are followed by the pronounced rye note, which provides pepper-spice and a light sweet finish.
Highwood Wheat Whiskey
An approachable whiskey made from winter wheat grown on our family farm. The flavor offers sweet roasted grain, vanilla and cocoa, accompanied by caramel, toffee, honey and burnt orange.
Cherrywood Smoked Malt Whiskey
A special release, available only in our tasting room after selecting a single cask each June. This whiskey is made with Montana wheat and barley, smoked with cherry wood and then aged for at least 6 years in a lightly toasted new American oak barrel. It has a balanced malted-spicy start and a long, lightly smoky finish.
Besøg/Oplevelser
Our Tasting Room is open Wednesday–Saturday from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. We are closed on Monday and Tuesday. Trailhead Spirits Mixology offers an extraordinary tasting experience with handcrafted cocktails made exclusively from Trailhead Spirits.
Filosofi
Montana is known for its large grain fields and clean water sources, which fits well with the cornerstone of our spirits. Case and Steffanie McGowan are behind it, and the wheat from the McGowan family farm in Highwood, MT is used as the raw material to ensure high quality in our small-batch spirits. We are dedicated to delivering quality local products and a good tasting experience, and our products are made and bottled on-site. Our approach is supported by a story that goes back to the Healy family's bootlegging history and home in the state of Montana, giving us an anchor in local craftsmanship and culture.
