History

Talnua describes itself as Gaelic Tradition Meets American Pioneerism and claims to be America's First Single Pot Still Whiskey Distillery. The distillery is located in Arvada, Colorado, and focuses on the traditional pot still distillation method and a culture that unites Gaelic tradition with American pioneer spirit.

Production / Manufacturing

Talnua uses a mashbill of 50% unmalted and 50% malted barley, triple-distilled in copper pot-stills. The process follows wort-separated fermentation and copper pot-distillation. The spirits mature in new charred American white oak casks in several variants, including the Bottled-in-Bond series, which are 100 proof (50% ABV) and aged at least 4 years. Their Continuum Cask releases mature first in virgin American white oak and are vatted in a larger continuum cask, where the cask is never emptied and the average age increases over time. There is also Peated Cask Whisky, finished in ex-peat casks; and on-site smoking of their own wood and staves with Irish peat. Heritage Selection blends pot still whiskey with grain whiskey, and finishes in secondary casks in Colorado. Limited Release editions include Olde Saint's Keep and Black Dog Batch; there is also Bottled-in-Bond Sherry Cask Finished American Single Pot Still Whiskey, as well as Bourbon Cask & Stave Series and Continuum Cask.

Products / Whisky Series

The core series includes American Single Pot Still Whiskey (A.S.P.S.) aged a minimum of 4 years in charred first-fill American white oak casks and Bottled-in-Bond American White Oak Cask Whiskey. Heritage Selection is a blend of pot still whiskey and grain whiskey. Cask & Stave Series combines ex-bourbon fades with new staves. Continuum Cask Whisky uses a continuity-based maturation in virgin American white oak and a continuum cask. Peated Cask Whisky is finished in ex-peat casks. There are Limited Release editions such as Olde Saint's Keep, Black Dog Batch, Aries Series Vol. 001, as well as Talnua Finglas gin and other gin variants. Talnua also produces Barrel Finished Gin.

Philosophy

Talnua unites Gaelic tradition with American pioneer spirit. Single Pot Still is at the core of the production with a mashbill of 50% unmalted / 50% malted barley and triple-distillation in copper pot-stills. Heritage Selection demonstrates a grain-to-glass approach by blending pot still whiskey with grain whiskey and aging in secondary casks to create a unique Irish-American expression.
