History
TahWahKaro Distilling Company was founded by Justin Jackson and his brother Jason Jackson in 2016 and was the first distillery in Grapevine, TX. The company describes itself as grain-to-glass and handles malting and bottling of every bottle at the distillery in Palestine, Texas. The name TahWahKaro comes from an original word meaning bend in the river and the original water source for settlers in Grapevine, TX.
Production
We are 100 percent Texan and we malt, cook, ferment, distill, and hand-dip each bottle in-house in Palestine. We use local Texas grains: corn from Valley View, rye from Denton, malt from Fort Worth, and water from Palestine. The spent grain also feeds local cattle.
Products
TahWahKaro produces two main whiskey lines, Four Grain Bourbon and Rye Malt Whiskey. Four Grain Bourbon is described as a well-balanced bourbon where the entire process from milling to bottling takes place in-house, with tasting notes such as caramel, Texas corn, smoke, buttered toast, white pepper, and vanilla. Rye Malt Whiskey is described as an explosive flavor experience with vanilla, toffee, pepper, chocolate, buttered toast, and spices.
Visits/Experiences
BOOK A TOUR provides an up-close look at the distillation and aging processes and the opportunity to taste whiskies as well as get a cocktail in the tasting room. Tours are held without registration and take place on Saturdays from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. There is also the option of a bottling party where you can participate in the process for a few hours. Infants or small children may not participate in tours or bottling parties.
Philosophy
TahWahKaro is proud to be a grain-to-glass distillery and to use Texas grains from local suppliers. We get corn from Valley View, rye from Denton, and malted grain from Fort Worth, as well as water from Palestine. The by-products of production feed local cattle. The bottles are hand-dipped and filled in Palestine.
