Historie

Silver Trail Distillery opened in 2011 and is located in Marshall County, Kentucky. The owner is Spencer Balentine and his wife Shelia. Spencer had for 30 years run one of the largest Yamaha/ATV dealers in Kentucky and was a master at motorcycling. Father Thomas was a legendary moonshine-runner in the 1950s, and the family continued the heritage in the distillery. The family history and the regional connection to LBL inspired the production of moonshine. The current still is a copy of the original and was created through contributions from the family, including the design of a twin condenser system. Silver Trail Distillery opened in 2011 and is located in dry Marshall County. In 2014 the distillery won SIP Awards: LBL Apple Sin Moonshine earned Platinum as best flavored whiskey, LBL Apple Sin Nitro earned Gold, and LBL 100 proof Moonshine in the un-aged class earned Gold. The distillery is located in Hardin, KY. Tours are offered on selected days and times; there is also a museum in Aurora, KY located just across from Hitching Post.

Produktion/Fremstilling

There are two copper stills: a new 300 gallon Revenoor and a 1947 square pot, 175 gallon still. Casey-stilleren uses a twin condenser system and follows a historical design. The mash is made from yellow corn, milled in-house and naturally fermented without added heat. According to descriptions, roughly 1 gallon per 7 minutes is produced by the Casey rig. LBL Moonshine production includes three variants: 100% Moonshine and Apple Sin Moonshine are produced on the Casey still, while LBL Jr 80 proof Moonshine is produced on the 300-gallon tower still.
