History
Short Path Distillery was founded in Everett, Massachusetts in the summer of 2015. They opened with two signature spirits and have since created more than 25 spirits, showcasing their unique approach to spirits development and their commitment to quality and community.
Production and Approach
They describe an Old World distilling philosophy with traditional direct-fire copper pot stills and the distinctive "short path distillation" principle, where a short path between evaporation and condensation is thought to give more flavor and complexity. They emphasize small batches to ensure consistency and character. Their commitment to high quality comes through organic ingredients and locally sourced raw materials.
Whisky and Bold Flavor Profiles
- Concord Straight Rye Whiskey: A rye that shows the special terroir of New England. Each batch is handmade from grain grown on Morrill Farm, Concord, New Hampshire, and distilled in direct-fire copper pot stills near Boston. It is aged in fresh oak barrels for at least two years to develop its complex character, and each sip explores the impact of single-origin and single-harvest grain as well as supporting farming.
- Straight American Single Malt Whiskey: A single malt made from 100% Northeast-malted barley; double-distilled in direct-fire copper pot stills and aged in American oak barrels for at least two years to capture the characteristic New England terroir.
Products and Portfolio
Besides the whiskies, Short Path also produces gin (Acadia Gin, Cyprus Gin, London Dry Gin, Old Tom Gin), Amaro, Americano Blanc, Americano Rouge, Triple Sec, Hibiscus Rum, Myrtle Liqueur, Pommeau, Summer Reserve and more. They highlight the use of organic ingredients and local raw materials, as well as the development of the spirits catalog through "The Hatchery"/CSA program and "Spirits For Change" initiatives.
Visits and Experience
Visitors can experience the Cocktail Bar, which is a large industrial space with house-made craft cocktails and uses locally sourced ingredients. The bar has indoor and outdoor seating, dog-friendly areas and private/semi-private events. The café also opens its doors to coffee and croissants from local partners, and they offer free tours with guided tasting as part of Tours & Tastings. There are also private tours and private events, as well as the possibility to buy bottles and cocktail kits in their online shop.
